At River & Root, our celebrations are designed to feel as special as they are seamless. Whether you’re planning a cozy indoor party, a beautifully styled gathering, or an open-air garden celebration, each experience is thoughtfully crafted to support connection, play, and meaningful moments.

Every party is a private rental of our space, meaning your family and guests will be the only ones on-site during your celebration, with access to the areas included in your selected package.

From fully styled, done-for-you celebrations to more hands-on experiences where you bring your own personal touches, our party offerings are designed with flexibility in mind, so you can choose the experience that feels just right for your family.

You’ll collaborate with our in-house event stylist to bring your child’s interests and your overall vision for their party to life in a way that feels personal, elevated, and effortless.

The little one celebration add-on

Designed especially for first birthdays, The Little ONE Celebration Add-On adds a meaningful, heirloom-quality touch to your child’s milestone celebration.

This thoughtfully curated experience focuses on capturing the magic of your baby’s first year, creating space for reflection, celebration, and memories you’ll treasure for years to come.

Root Celebration

The Root Celebration is a relaxed indoor party option that gives you full access to our thoughtfully designed play space and party room, along with support from our team to help your celebration run smoothly.

This option is ideal for families who enjoy bringing their own personal touches and being more hands-on with setup, while still having a beautiful space and helpful support throughout the experience.

Looking for a fully styled, done-for-you experience? Many families choose our Bloom Celebration to enjoy a beautifully prepared, stress-free party from the moment they arrive.

  • Child-sized tables and chairs (for up to 20 children)

  • Flexible adult setup options:

Guests are welcome to step outside for fresh air or sit on the porch on rocking chairs, etc. but the outdoor area will not be set up for party or play use, and children are not able to move between outdoor and indoor play during these events.

  • We find 30 guests or fewer to be most comfortable in our space

BLOOM CELEBRATION

The Bloom Celebration is our most popular option for families who want a beautifully styled, fully prepared celebration without the stress of doing it themselves.

Instead of spending the morning setting up, you get to walk in, take a deep breath, and actually enjoy your child’s special day. Every detail is thoughtfully designed in advance, creating a cohesive, photo-ready space that feels warm, welcoming, and truly special.

You’ll collaborate with our event stylist to bring your child’s interests, favorite colors, and overall vision to life in a way that feels personal, elevated, and effortless.

This is your celebration, fully brought to life.

This celebration is ideal for families who enjoy bringing their own decorations and personal touches, creating a setup that feels uniquely theirs, while we provide the space, flow, and support to bring it all together. For a fully styled, done-for-you experience, you also have the option to add our Bloom Styling Experience, with more details below.

With a thoughtfully designed outdoor environment, this celebration offers a slower, more social rhythm where little ones can explore freely while adults enjoy time together in a comfortable, welcoming setting.

Children can move between play experiences throughout our curated outdoor space, while adults settle in with plenty of seating, lawn games, and space to enjoy food and conversation.

You can also customize your celebration by incorporating special touches like a food truck, ice cream truck, or other unique experiences. Our team is happy to help you think through the details to make your celebration feel extra fun and memorable.

Even if the weather shifts, your celebration is supported with a seamless indoor backup, so you can feel confident knowing your event will still be beautifully hosted.

Outdoor styling uses the same decor elements as our indoor celebrations, allowing for a cohesive look and a seamless transition indoors if needed.

Weather Policy

Our outdoor celebrations are thoughtfully designed to take full advantage of our garden space, while also offering the comfort of a seamless indoor backup. In the event of inclement weather, your celebration will be beautifully transitioned indoors, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for you and your guests.

In order to properly plan for and staff your event, all weather decisions must be made by the end of day on Thursday for Saturday parties and end of day on Friday for Sunday parties.

As a small gesture of flexibility, if your celebration transitions indoors due to weather, you will receive a $50 River & Root credit to use toward a future visit or event.

Capacity

THE GARDEN TO TABLE PARTY (SEASONAL: MAY TO AUGUST)

The Garden to Table Party offers a thoughtfully designed blend of indoor and outdoor celebration, allowing your event to flow in a way that feels natural, relaxed, and well-paced.

Most families choose to begin indoors, where little ones can explore our play space while guests settle in, connect, and enjoy light bites for the first hour of your party. From there, your celebration transitions outdoors in the second hour for open-air dining, continued play, and cake in a spacious, outdoor setting.

On especially warm days, some families prefer to begin outdoors with a garden welcome before transitioning inside for their meal and cake. In this case, indoor access will be limited to the party room only, and indoor play will not be available following outdoor time.

Designed with both children and adults in mind, this experience unfolds in two distinct parts, creating space for play, connection, and meaningful moments without the feeling of constant movement or disruption.

You can also customize your celebration by incorporating special touches like a food truck, ice cream truck, or other unique experiences. Our team is happy to help you think through the details to make your celebration feel extra fun and memorable.

Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, your celebration is thoughtfully designed to shift seamlessly indoors, so the experience remains smooth, special, and fully supported.

Choose Your Flow

Indoor → Outdoor (Recommended)
Begin inside with play and connection, then transition outdoors for dining, celebration, and cake in a relaxed, open-air setting. You may also decide to begin with indoor play and enjoy dining and cake inside, and then transition outside for outdoor play for your last 30 minutes.

Outdoor → Indoor (Best for warmer days)
Start with a garden welcome and outdoor play, then transition inside for your meal and cake in the party room.

Flow & Play Note

To keep the experience smooth, clean, and enjoyable for all guests, this celebration is designed to unfold in two distinct parts rather than allowing free movement between spaces.

If your celebration begins outdoors, indoor play will not be available, and indoor access will be limited to the party room only. If your celebration begins indoors, outdoor time will follow as the second portion of your event.

Once children transition outdoors for play, the indoor play space will close for the remainder of the celebration. This helps us maintain a clean and safe environment, especially with outdoor elements like water and sensory play.

Looking for more flexibility?

If you’d like to enjoy time indoors, transition outdoors, and then return indoors again for dining or cake, you can extend your celebration to 3 hours for an additional $100. Please email us at hello@riverandrootnj.com for this add-on.

With the extended time, your celebration can flow more gradually between spaces while still maintaining a smooth and well-paced experience.

Decor & Setup Note

To ensure a cohesive and seamless experience, all decor and styled elements will be set up in one primary location, either indoors or outdoors based on your chosen flow.

The secondary space will remain intentionally simple and functional for play and gathering.

We know planning a party comes with lots of little questions, and our goal is to make your celebration as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here a few helpful details and guidelines that will help you plan with confidence — so when the big day arrives, you can focus on celebrating and soaking up the memories.

  • Our space is cozy by design — just the right size for meaningful celebrations and easy conversation. We can welcome up to 45 guests total, including children and adults. This number must include the birthday child and party family as its based on fire code.

    That said, we’ve found that around 30 guests tends to feel the most comfortable and allows everyone plenty of space to play, relax, and enjoy. The more guests you invite, the busier the space will feel — but we’ll make sure it’s beautiful and ready either way.

    Non-mobile infants under 6 months (who will be held or kept in carriers during the event) do not count toward this total.

    Please review your chosen party package for specific numbers.

  • Yes! Every River & Root party includes exclusive use of our full play space, party room, or outdoor area depending on your package. No other families or events will be happening on our property during your celebration, so it’s truly your time to relax and enjoy.

  • Yes — absolutely! You’re welcome to bring wraps, sandwiches, hoagie trays, snack-style items, fruit and veggie trays, and desserts like cupcakes or cookies, etc.. To help us keep the space tidy and comfortable for all families, we just ask that messy or spill-prone foods (like pasta, rice, quinoa, or saucy dishes) stay home. We also do not allow salmon or other fish products. Sternos or open flames for warming food aren’t permitted, but cold items and room-temperature trays work perfectly.

    Tip: Think “picnic-style” — fresh, simple, and easy to serve!

  • Yes! We absolutely understand that smash cakes are a special and meaningful tradition, especially for first birthdays, and we’re happy to accommodate them with a few important guidelines.

    Smash cakes must be contained to a high chair only. Families are welcome to rent our vintage high chair or bring their own. We ask that the smash cake activity stay within the high chair area and that cleanup happens immediately afterward.

    Before your child re-enters the play space, their hands (and face, if needed) should be wiped down or washed to help us keep the space clean and safe for all little ones.

    We love celebrating these sweet milestones with you and appreciate your help in keeping our space comfortable for everyone enjoying the party.

  • We love seeing how families make the space their own! You’re welcome to bring tabletop décor, freestanding decorations, and items to decorate our open shelving.

    To keep our space looking its best for every family, we just ask that:

    • Nothing is taped, pinned, or hung on the walls beyond the hooks we provide

    • No glitter, confetti, confetti-filled balloons, or pinatas

    If you’d like coordinated decorations without the setup stress, our Bloom Package & our Styled Celebration Upgrade includes beautiful, themed table settings that match your celebration.

  • At River & Root, we care deeply about creating a beautiful space for your celebration while also being mindful of our environmental impact. Traditional balloons can be harmful to wildlife and the environment, and because of that, we try to limit their use in our space. We never want families to feel bad for wanting balloons — we totally understand how special they can be for little ones — so we’ve worked hard to find a thoughtful alternative.

    As part of our Root & Bloom Celebration package, we offer reusable balloon towers in your chosen theme colors. These give you the festive “balloon moment” without any waste, and they fit safely within our cozy space.

    If you are not selecting one of those packages, you’re welcome to bring one small balloon bunch (5–7 balloons max) that matches your theme. This bunch can be attached to your child’s chair or placed at the gift table.

    Because of space limitations and set-up time, we do not allow balloon arches or large balloon installations under any circumstances.

    If balloons are really important to your celebration, just let us know — we’re happy to help you choose the best option for your party! You can also add-on a reusable balloon tower in your choice of colors even if you want to decorate yourself.

    Our space is designed especially for children ages 0–4, with a thoughtful balance of movement, sensory, and pretend play. While we’re a smaller, cozy play space, every inch has been intentionally curated to support development, creativity, and connection.

    Here’s a peek at what you’ll find inside:

    • ⛺️ Campsite Area: Our signature zone featuring a larger-than-life RV play camper for pretend adventures — complete with a mini kitchen, driver’s seat, campfire setup, pretend s’mores, dress-up play, and weather boards.

    • 🌲 Imaginative Play Corner: A tent and grill with pretend play items to “cook” and create outdoor-inspired fun.

    • ⚖️ Movement Zone: A seesaw, tunnel, and a variety of climbing/balance boards to build coordination and confidence through safe, open-ended movement.

    • 🎵 Playground Area: A small indoor play set with a slide, stairs to climb, a tunnel to crawl through, and sensory wall panels.

    • 👶 Infant Area: Designed for babies learning to crawl, pull up, and explore safely. Includes pull-up bars, soft mats, and Montessori-style infant toys that support early milestones.

    • 💡 Light + Build Table: A light table with magna tiles, wooden blocks, and manipulatives for building, stacking, and exploring cause and effect.

    When hosting a birthday party or special event, we can flexibly adapt the play environment — for example, transforming the infant area into additional toddler play space if your celebration is geared toward older toddlers.

    Every area in River & Root was designed with input from pediatric occupational therapists and child development experts to ensure our environment supports the social, physical, and sensory needs of young children.

    We may be a small space — but every detail was created with care, intention, and a deep understanding of how little ones learn and grow.

  • Yes — we’re open to outside entertainment and love working with families to create a celebration that feels special and fun. If you have an idea in mind, please email us at hello@riverandrootnj.com with the details, and we’ll happily take a look together.

    At this time, we’re not able to accommodate face painting or slime-making activities. These materials can be difficult to contain and may transfer to walls, floors, furniture, and play materials in our space. Since our environment is designed for little ones and shared by many families, we aim to keep it as clean and safe as possible for everyone.

    If you’re unsure what might work well, we’re always happy to suggest low-mess, age-appropriate entertainment options that fit beautifully in our space.

  • Yes — we know that birthdays often bring together the whole family, and we warmly welcome older siblings or cousins to join in the celebration. Because our play space is thoughtfully designed for children ages 0–4, we just ask that older children play gently and remain mindful of our littlest guests while they’re in the play area.

    We’ll have cozy seating and open areas where older kids can relax, help celebrate, or enjoy a snack if they prefer not to play.

  • If you’ve chosen our Root Package, you’re welcome to arrive 30 minutes before your party to begin setting up. Our team will have the space clean, ready, and waiting for you.

    For families who’ve chosen the Bloom Package, we’ll take care of setup for you — just show up ready to celebrate! You are welcome to arrive up to 30 minutes early as well to bring extra food or additional decorations, but please know we may not yet be fully set up for you.

  • Yes! We know it can be hard to say goodbye when everyone’s having fun. If you’d like a little more time to celebrate, extra party time is available for $100 per additional hour. You can choose to:

    • Add extra time before your 1:00 PM party, or

    • Add extra time after your 4:30 PM party.

    Please let us know when booking so we can confirm availability and adjust your reservation accordingly

  • A $225 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your party date. If you choose the Reserve Now, Decide Later option, your $225 payment secures your date and will be applied toward your selected package once you finalize your details.

    If you choose to book your full party package upfront, please note that the first $225 of that payment is non-refundable.

    Cancellations made 30 days or more before your party may receive a refund for the remaining balance (minus the $225 deposit), or have the deposit applied to a future party date within six months.

    Cancellations made within 14 days of the event are non-refundable and non-transferable for the full amount.
