PLAY & VISIT

SUMMER Open play (JUNE THROUGH LABOR DAY)

During the summer, our play sessions look a little different than they do during the rest of the year. We are offering more flexible play windows, outdoor play options, and splash days throughout the season.

Please check our booking calendar for the most up-to-date schedule each day.

Indoor Open Play

Indoor Open Play includes access to our indoor play space, with the option to transition outside during your visit.

A few things to know:

  • On many summer days, Indoor Open Play will be offered during a longer flexible window, often 9:00 AM–1:00 PM.

  • On certain days, due to classes, events, parties, or other River & Root happenings, Indoor Open Play may only be available from 9:00–11:00 AM or 11:00 AM-1:00pm.

  • Your indoor play session is still up to 2 hours long, regardless of the length of the open play window.

  • For example, if you arrive at 10:00 AM during a 9:00 AM–1:00 PM session, you should plan to head out around 12:00 PM.

  • All families must begin their visit indoors.

  • If your family chooses, you may transition outside after your indoor visit and you may continue using the outdoor play area, back bathroom, and back lobby/cooling area, but you will not be able to return to indoor play.

Outdoor ONLY Open Play

Outdoor-Only Open Play is a summer option for families who want to enjoy our outdoor play area without starting indoors. It's also priced at a slightly lower price point as it does not include access to our indoor play area.

Outdoor-Only Open Play is generally offered:

  • Monday through Friday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

  • Wednesday and Friday evenings: 4:30–6:30 PM

  • Saturday and Sunday mornings: 9:00–11:00 AM

A few things to know:

  • Outdoor-Only Open Play gives families access to our outdoor play area only.

  • Families may use our back bathroom and back lobby/cooling area as needed.

  • Snacks, drinks, and lunch are welcome outside.

  • Outdoor-Only Open Play may be canceled due to inclement weather, extreme heat, thunder, lightning, or unsafe outdoor conditions

Water Play + Splash Pad Days

Water play and splash pad days are offered on select outdoor play days when temperatures are above 75 degrees.

When water play is available:

  • We’ll mark it on our weekly Instagram calendar with a splash symbol.

  • The weekly calendar will be saved to our story highlights for easy viewing.

  • Water play may include the splash pad, water tables, pouring stations, or other water-based play invitations.

  • Outdoor play and water play are always weather-dependent.

THE RIVER & ROOT DIFFERENCE

Our open play sessions are about more than toys and time, they’re about connection. Each session moves at a slower pace, giving families space to breathe, settle in, and enjoy time together.

About 15–20 minutes into every indoor play session, we host our Gathering Circle — a casual, friendly circle where caregivers can introduce themselves and connect. Because our space is intentionally small, you’ll naturally get to know the families in your session, and this simple tradition helps turn those familiar faces into friendships,

Children are always welcome to join or continue exploring! There’s no pressure, just presence.

Each session includes transition time on both ends so families never feel rushed. Between sessions, our team refreshes and sanitizes every area so the next group arrives to a spotless, inviting space.

PRICING & POLICIES

Indoor Play Pricing:

  • $20 per child (0 – 4 years), $10 per sibling on weekdays

  • $25 per child (0-4 years), $15 per sibling on weekends (We’ve set weekend Open Play at a slightly higher price point so we can continue providing weekend play opportunities for families. Weekends are our highest-demand time for birthday parties, and this small price adjustment helps us protect dedicated play blocks for the community)

  • Children under 6 months are free when accompanied by a sibling with paid admission

  • One adult is included in each child ticket purchased

  • $10 per additional adult

    • Because our space is thoughtfully designed with young children in mind, adult bodies take up more room than children. When additional adults attend, it directly impacts how many children we’re able to welcome and safely accommodate.

For that reason, additional adult admission will now be $10 (previously $5). This small adjustment helps us balance capacity and continue offering the calm, high-quality play experience families expect at River & Root.

Outdoor Play Pricing:

  • $15 per child (0 – 4 years), $5 per sibling on weekdays

  • Children under 6 months are free when accompanied by a sibling with paid admission

  • One adult is included in each child ticket purchased

  • $5 per additional adult

Booking Policies:

  • Pre-booking is required. Once we reach capacity, we’re unable to allow additional guests into the space, and we’d hate to have to turn you away at the door. Please be sure to reserve your spot in advance.

  • Indoor Open Play is designed for children ages 0–4, Outdoor Play is designed for children ages 0-6. We don’t check birth certificates at the door — if you have a slightly older sibling joining a younger child and they’re able to play safely around babies and young children, that’s absolutely fine.

    • Non-walking infants may attend any Open Play session, we have a separate gated area just for them. However, we also offer Infant-Only Open Play on Mondays & Thursdays from 11:30 AM–1:30 PM.

  • Each Open Play session is scheduled for 2 hours, which includes arrival and departure time. Active play will wrap up about 10 minutes before the end of your time slot so we can gently transition families out and have everyone fully exited by the session end. This allows our team to properly clean and reset the space for the next group.

  • Please come to play only if your child is feeling well. Children should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication, have no vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours, and no visible rashes associated with illness (including hand, foot, and mouth), eye discharge, persistent coughing, or other symptoms that would require staying home from daycare or school. If we notice symptoms during your visit, we may ask you to head home and return another time. We offer flexible rescheduling and appreciate your help protecting our youngest visitors.

  • River & Root is a shoe-free, socks-only space in our indoor play area. Socks are required for all visitors, including adults. Bare feet are not permitted. Grip socks are recommended and available for purchase.

  • Snacks and drinks may be enjoyed in the lobby or on the porch, weather permitting. No food or drinks are permitted in the play space.

  • Due to the size of our space, we cannot accommodate strollers. Compact car-seat strollers (such as the Doona/EvenFlo Shyft) are welcome but must be folded once inside. (During warm weather, strollers can be left outside/in our yard)

Cancellation Policies:

  • At River & Root, we strive to be flexible and family-friendly while also honoring the realities of our small space and staffing needs. Because we schedule staff and prepare the space based on expected attendance, we are unable to offer monetary refunds for Open Play sessions. Instead, we gladly offer credits and easy modifications.

  • You may modify your reservation up to 1 hour before your play block using the Modify Booking link in your confirmation email.

  • Late modifications (within 1 hour), late cancellations, and no-shows are not eligible for credit or refund.
